General Accountability

Inspects products on arrival, and monitors condition and quality of products in inventory for an assigned region. Maintains concentration while handling detailed work in an atmosphere of time pressures and multiple demands.

Specific Accountabilities

Inspects both domestic and imported products on arrival at the designated location to ensure compliance with established industry standards, and company policies and procedures.

Build and maintains effective relationships with USDA representatives, bird dogs, warehouse personnel, commodity managers, growers and grower representatives.

Coordinates and/or participates in product checking and repacking operations. Assists in quality control inspections for these operations.

Monitors the condition and quality of products in inventory.

May assist in the selection of products for customer shipments as well as assist in managing good rotation practices.

Coordinates recouping operations of damaged products to ensure that container standards and customer expectations and requirements are maintained.

Documents information (e.g. product quality, inventory, re-pack and reconditioning activities) in computerized files in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures. Produces inspection and related quality control reports in accordance with standards, deadlines and company requirements.

Investigates and resolves related problems in a timely manner. Liaises with internal and external contacts to collect relevant information. Escalates problems to the supervisor.

Experience:

w 1-2 years of related experience in quality inspection and control in the produce industry

w DESIRED: experience in dealing with specific Oppenheimer commodities

Skills & Technical Knowledge:

w Knowledge of relevant food safety systems (HACCP, ISO)

w Knowledge of product grade standards, methods and techniques of produce inspection

w Excellent organizational skills

w Strong problem solving skills

w Beginner level knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

w Ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions and communicate information to appropriate parties

w Ability to be on-call and to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends.

w Ability to travel locally and have the use of their own car.

w Ability to work in cold temperatures in a warehouse and product storage environment

w Ability to lift 40 lbs.

w DESIRED SKILL: Ability to speak Spanish

Credentials (DESIRED):

w Degree, diploma or related industry training in agricultural practices, post-harvest technology
