SAN Engineer: SHI International Corporation

SHI International Corp is looking for an experienced SAN Engineer. Initially, this person will be leading an internal project to replace existing HP MSA1500 systems with two HP EVA4400 storage systems. The project includes initial installation and configuration of the new equipment, setting up systems management software, creating documentation, migrating data to the new EVA storage, and training a SAN Administrator to assume daily responsibility for the new storage systems.

Applicants will need to have at least 2-3 years experience doing similar work. Ideally, the candidate will have specific experience with HP EVA 4400 systems, HP StorageWorks B-Series switches, HP Proliant servers, Windows 2003/2008 servers and VMware ESX servers. HP storage certifications and experience with EMC CLARiiON solutions is a plus.

After completing the initial project, the SAN Engineer will be joining the customer-facing Hardware & Advanced Solutions team.

Hardware & Advanced Solutions Responsibilities:

· Provide a first point of contact for SHI Account Executives in need of pre-sales technical support for storage opportunities.

· Acquire /Maintain technical certifications determined by SHI as important to our line of business

· Help develop and train SHI Sales Reps in best practices for growing storage sales

· Drive awareness of new trends in the storage marketplace

· Design, and present storage solutions for SHI customers and prospects

· Assist in responding to storage RFP’s and RFI’s

· Recognize Deal Registration Opportunities for storage products

· Assist our services in uncovering and maximizing storage opportunities

Required Knowledge and Skills:

· SAN hardware and software

o MSA1500, HP EVA 4400 and HSV controller operation

o SCSI, SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel, RAID, iSCSI technologies

o HP Storage Works B-Series switch configuration and operation

o FC topologies, components, cabling

o Disk configurations, LUN masking, storage virtualization

o Replication, snapshot, Snapclones and Mirrorclones concepts

o Device recovery methods

· Configuring HP Proliant Servers, HBA’s and SAN storage

o Configuring Windows Server and VMware ESX Servers configuration for SAN access

o Multi-path solutions - HP MPIO DSM, automatic failover, load balancing, secure path

· SAN management

o SAN performance management, monitoring techniques and setting up alerts

o Management software: HP StorageWorks Command View EVA, HP Storage Essentials Storage Resource Management, HP Systems Insight Manager and SMI-S

o HSV controller and disk drive enclosures interconnects and indicators

o Maintaining comprehensive documentation

· SAN Backup Solutions

o SAN backups and recovery methods

o Symantec BackupExec

· Strong verbal presentation skills, with the ability to tailor dialogue to targeted audience

· Strong written communication skills, including experience in writing documentation, assisting with SOW development, and written correspondence with customers and vendors

· Detail-oriented

· Strong interpersonal skills are required to for effective communication with internal team members, customers and vendors

· Knowledge of additional Storage MFRs is a plus
