What are excellent jobs to have prior to applying for a Pharmaceutical Sales job?
Asked by who knows
I'm starting community college in a few days for either a Business Administration or Business Marketing degree. Which is better for Pharmaceutical Sales?
Not only which is better for pharmaceutical sales, but which is more useful and what is a better major in general? I always want to know I can find good work.
Secondly, as Pharmaceutical Sales is my goal job, what are jobs that would look great on a resume before I apply to Pharmaceutical companies?
All help is greatly appreciated.

The drug companies have been in trouble for selling too hard to doctors so are now cutting their sales forces big time. There are thousands of unemployed Pharmaceutical sales people on the street all with more experience than you. It is expected that hiring will not pick up for about ten years.
The degrees are fine. But unless you have an inside connection you may not find the job you want anyway.

Excellent jobs would be pharmacy tech, pharmacist, nurse, doctor, or someone in sales/marketing. I would stick with pharmacy tech though, because everything else pretty much requires a degree from 2 years to 8 years, and after that time you might decide to be committed to that profession rather than drug rep. Also working in the pharmacy will give you an idea of what pharmacies and patients really need.
