I want to be an Editor. Can someone give me some advice and what I have to do to become one?

My favorite subject is English, and I just realized I don't know what I want to do with my life. I did a little bit of research and found "Editor" to my liking. I want to edit books and magizines. Can someone give me advice on what kinds of classes I should take if I want to be in this field? Thanks!

Keep taking all things English related - ESPECIALLY creative writing courses. If you can get into some journalism courses, that will help too. Also, see if you can get on the student paper - the writing experience will help PLUS you can work your way towards editor - and then get some experience in the area. Finally, once you get the hang of some basic tasks in editing, apply at the local paper for an editor, copy editor, whatever - or look around the community for volunteer gigs that can use that skill set. have fun!
