A question concerning RESUMES?
Asked by Harry Hood
When a company uses a conventional name but spells it unconventionally should I assume the reader of the resume is going to think I misspelled the company name? Such as:
Dari Farms which IS correct
Or should I just spell it as the reader would expect as
Dairy Farms
Taking into consideration that many times computers scan resumes and not humans. Also maybe because humans reading it will only look at it very briefly and think I can't even spell the company name. So would you spell it as expected then explain later? Or put a note in the resume explaining it is spelled correctly?

Best Answer:
If you eliminate the space between Dari and Farms, it will look like a company name and be read as such by a computer or a human reader. That way, you avoid changing the name.
Years of reading resumes and hiring candidates.

This is an interesting one! I never thought about that. I guess you could put it in quotes. I think the best thing is to spell it correctly and when you get to the interview, make a note of it on the application and explain it to the employer. Because you are right-it will look like you cannot spell or proofread. In this market, those errors can get your resume trashed.

You should spell it the way the company spells it! That is how they chose to spell it and you have to comply with them. Good Luck!

Give the interviewer a little credit to figure out that Companies use clever names. I once interviewed a foreign national who said he worked at Huge Stools. Took me several minutes to figure out he was working for Hughes Tools.

You could always clarify: e.g., Dari Farms (Wholesale Dairy). Good luck!
