in a grocery store as a shelf stocker or grocery bagger, or at a video store maybe, ice cream parlors, restaurants being a hostess..theres plenty of oppurtunities out there, not just in retail stores.

When You Turn 16 . . .
You can work in any job or occupation that has not been declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor.
Hazardous Occupations
You generally may not work in any of the following hazardous occupations:
manufacturing and storing of explosives,
driving a motor vehicle and being an outside helper on a motor vehicle;
coal mining,
logging and sawmilling,
power-driven woodworking machines,
exposure to radioactive substances,
power-driven hoisting apparatus,
power-driven metal-forming, punching, and shearing machines,
mining, other than coal mining,
meat packing or processing (including the use of power-driven meat slicing machines),
power-driven bakery machines,
power-driven paper-product machines,
manufacturing brick, tile, and related products,
power-driven circular saws, band saws, and guillotine shears,
wrecking, demolition, and shipbreaking operations,
roofing operations and all work on or about a roof, or
excavation operations.
There are some exemptions for apprentice/student-learner programs in some of these hazardous occupations.

I worked at an ice cream place when I was 16...which is perfect for summer. It's always cool inside and there are always people coming through which means more tips.

when i was your age, i was working as an engineer in a large fabrication plant making above minimum wage doing all sorts of projects and learning great skills that are way better than what you have!

everywhere, you could work at a hooters or somekind of sports bar a make a lotta money. also if you want fast food checkers is pretty fun. starbucks, they have good benefits

Any grocery store (but not the deli or maybe bakery. You need to be 18 to use the equpiment) Any clothing store, department store, a restaurant that doesn't serve alcohol. (Again, you need to be 18 to serve alcohol) You have a lot of options!

Any fast food resturant, ice cream parlors. Any store like walmart, kmart. Most stores at the mall. Specialty stores like florist, movie rentals stores (blockbuster, etc.) grocery stores.

You can really do anything that the hours for your state permit. I live in New Jersey, where you can do most jobs and work nights at 16. I don't know what state you live in, so I can't tell you the guidelines for underage employment, but I'll give you the link for the New Jersey Department of Labor. Also, if you want you can look up the _______ Department of Labor for the state you live in on google.

That depends very much on what state you live in. Generally Fast Food joints, Grocery and Department stores are safe bets. You could also do Summer work in an office. I would try to avoid cashiering if i were you.
Take the best thing you can get, preferably something that would dovetail into your career path and get all the experience you can. Be careful of people offering easy credit.
