Yes and No. Call centers are kind of like modern day slave ships. It's call after call after call. The use scheduling software to figure out staffing levels. They staff low to cut costs. Meaning you take lots of calls. It can be very stressful. You have to be able to deal with all kinds of people and all their moods. Some call centers may push you to sell products too. You are evaluated based on stats (how many calls, how long on average, did you resolve the problem, time in between calls, attendance, tardy). They pay low too but have decent benefits generally. That being said, a call center job can you get in the door of a company or you may be able to advance. The downside is - they could outsource the call center overseas. My personal experience in call centers is that favorites are generally played. You could be the best performer in the call center and you may never get promoted because they are too busy promoting the ones that don't answer enough phone calls. Just beware of that kind of situation. Sometimes, people only see you as a help desk tech or a call center person even though they will choose an incompetent over you.

I suggest you to try project payday, simply because you don't need any money up front and you can start making money within 15 minutes. I average around 1,500 dollars every month with it. Check it out at http://homebasedbizzsite.com/payday.htm

I work in a call center for a large financial institution and I would have to say no to your question. The turn over rate is horrible as the stress levels can get so high as to make you sick. The pay is not good at all but the benefits can be good depending on the company. My company uses software to monitor and calculate the number of calls you average. You do not have the luxury of taking a breather between calls as the computers dials for you after disconnecting from your last call. Numbers are averaged according to number of calls, number of resolutions, number of cross sells and several other factors. The only good thing about it is the opportunity to get your foot in the door but if your only skill is in the call center you won't be moving very far or very fast. Lucky for me I work in a different department that shares the same building and floor space but I don't deal with customers.
