how do i become a pharmacy technician?

i would really like to become a pharmacy technician and i know that some places allow you to do hands on training in the pharmacy. does anyone know of any places that do that. what are the requirements. i would love to make a career out of this!! please help.

First off, it doesn't pay that well She began as a cashier in the pharmacy then over time learned all she could about the RX's and then took the test... It isn't what she is going to do....as a career, but it helps (minimally) pay her bills..without added support she really cannot support herself on this salary she will start nursing school in August

i know for a fact that both walgreens and cvs have a pharmacy technician program.. just check out the walgreens website or go to your local pharmacies and ask around. good luck!

It depends on what city/state you live in. Im in so cal and I know of a few great vocational schools out here... just google pharmacy tech training in your state and see what comes up. It only takes 6-9 months.

I became one quite easily when I was going to school to become one. I have a college degree so it got me in the door faster. It doesn't pay well if you work in retail. The money is in compounding and hospital pharmacy. It's still not a lot but can lead to other high paying opportunities. Start out at a local pharmacy. Then try to move into compounding.

In most cities around the country there are private career colleges like Devry or technical institutes that offer short term programs like the Pharmacy Tech, which is generally no longer than nine months and may also require an externship and offer job placement.

Walgreens is a good place to start. Apply for that positoin and they will pay for the school. You can start at a pharmacy as a tech in training, or you can go to school. Then you have to take a tech exam. They have it like twice a year.

this really depends on the requirements in your state. but in most states acourse or short study period is all you need ,

I worked as a Hospital Pharm Tech and liked it. You might just put in applications at your hospitals and see what happens. Also, go by your local drugstores and go to the pharmacy window and just ask, "Would I need any training to work here as a Pharmacy Tech?". See what they say. Some want you to have training and some will train you. Also, check Walmart. You don't have to stay at any of those places but it can be good if they'll train you.

Most just learn on the job. This is a job not a career. The average Tech stays on the job for less than 5 years. The average income is $13 per hour. The average starting salary is about $10 per hour. Hospitals do pay more. The Techs who stay for a longer period of time do work in the hospitals because you can actually make a living income there. Requirements do vary by state. Most states require no more than a high school diploma.
