Why am I feeling bothered by this guy at work? And do you think he's just saying this?
Ladies: Why is this bothering me so much? Co-worker depressing me?
I work as a mail clerk at a company, I get lots of compliments, I am known for being a hard worker, but lately a co-worker of mine has been telling me some people (didn';t give names) think I'm a "goof", meaning I have made some dumb mistakes on the job. For example : One time I was going to be out for 3 days, I made the mistake of emailing the entire company that.....
And he said personnel "laughed at me".....if they laughed at me, how come they say hi to me every time I see them?
Also, I guess they might have said it because I would get things, materials at a warehouse and sometimes bring the wrong things back.......
The thing is, this same guy keeps telling me "don't stay here for more than 5 years, you probably won't move up" and stuff like that.....and I told him the truth. I am a college grad who has his own career aspirations and this is the job I like that I can support myself with and pay the bills.
But yesterday, and today he said "You can make more money"

Then today we had a big argument, because I made a couple mistakes on the copier and he said he's tired of me making stupid mistakes, then he apologized and said he wants to take me out for a beer.
But he contradicts himself.....What the ****?
Also, we had been told it will be a while till we get a review. He said I was the weakest link in the department. Then why did I get the highest raise?
My boss knows about him, me and this kid DO get along, but he takes his personal problems out on others.......
I work hard, this is really bothering me.

Should I quit?
He said I seem distracted, and wants to know what's on my mind and I told him if he's got a problem to go to our boss and tell him how worthless I am. Then he said im not worthless......He's just pissy and admitted he was acting "like a *****" and that's how he can be.
Should I accept his invitation for a beer?
I dropped it, but it's like what the hell?
Does this drama go on in a work place?

Everyone makes silly mistakes. For him to harp on them says more about him than you. I think he is threatened by you; you are so good, it makes him look bad by comparison.
He is a bully and a manipulator. If you go out for a beer with him, he will glean as much information about you as he can, and use it against you. He is sabotaging your confidence in your ability to do the job, then he thinks he can just smooth it over by playing nice.
Go about your job the best you can. Don't take the bait he sets before you. You don't have to quit. But make sure the boss is aware of your legitimate complaints.
