My rule of thumb: Any company that puts exclamation points in their heading and says "no experience neccesary" is a scam.
There are some customer service jobs that are legitimate, although I'm not sure how to find them.

I'm convinced that all the easy, too good to be true, ones are scams. There are a few that you have to put effort in and sell product but you have to be a good salesperson to succeed in those.

I work from home, but we have our own trucking company and I do dispatch and invoicing. You could babysit from your home,or maybe do someone else's budgeting, checkbooks, and bills, sort of like accounting if your good at math. And there are always the fall backs like Avon, MaryKay, and Tupperware type things.Good luck to you.

I've been looking for a real telecommute job for a while now. There are real companies. Right now I work for cloud10.com where you do customer service calls and work out of home. Page is average 7-10 hour depending on the project. Application time can take a while because a lot of people apply at once. I interviewed a month ago and got hired. Alpine Access is another good one, there is also a lot of scams online so be careful. Rule of thumb is if you have to pay anything to make money it most likely isn't legit. I also search craigslist.com and type in telecommuting is ok and match a lot of jobs on there. It's amazing how many people will apply to these jobs so apply to as many as possible, this will increase your chancing of finding something good. I've known people still looking for telelcommute jobs that have been looking for years. The key is in the beginning you might get a job you don't necessarily like, like telemarketing, a lot of companies online are looking for cold callers commissions based meaning you would not be promised a HOURLY wage only percentage of successful leads. There is also virtual assistant, concierge service you can check job leads on craigslist.com a good messageboard is also wahm.com good luck and let me know if you need anything else.

If there are many grammatical errors in the job posting, then they are probably scams. Also, if the link looks shady, then it is a scam. Use common sense.

I have worked at liveops.com and www.workathomeagent.com and both were legitimate customer service jobs. I now do medical transcription and love it. You don't pay to work, but you do have to have quality training to get a job.
Best wishes to you.

I've worked several at home jobs with legitimate companies - they DO exist contraty to what some may say.
If you're looking for a work from home JOB (not a home based business), there are lots of companies who hire for call center type positions. And don't listen to the nay-sayers who say work from home and telecommuting jobs are all scams or that there aren't real jobs. There are. You just have to know where to look and how to avoid the scams.
Do NOT pay for a list of jobs or pay to get a job. There are a few of the legitimate companies that, after you have qualified for the job, ask you to pay for a background check if you will be handling sensitive information like credit cards. It's usually $20-$30 and from legitimate companies is a legit fee to pay. Other than that, there is no reason or need to pay anything if you just want a job. Some of the call center jobs, you are an independent contractor (IC) and some you are an employee.
If you want to start a home based business, there will be fees involved and business expenses. There are many legit business opportunities out there in direct sales, multi-level and network marketing. There are great companies to work with, but having a business isn't for everyone.
For info on jobs, you can check out this comparison chart from RatRaceRebellion.com - it shows a huge list of companies, their requirements, pay, where they are etc. http://www.ratracerebellion.com/CS_Comparison.html

If you want to make money online and wanted to work from home, go for freelancing jobs. They are only one, that will pay you and its free to become a freelancer. The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. You dont need to pay to get the job. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want.

Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes.

would you be interested in writing?
You could setup a blog or website, this is completely free. Once you have added some good content, you can start to earn money from advertising. I know you wont make a huge income from this, but it would get you started working from home.
Pick a topic which you are very interested in, and write a piece on that everyday.
I've given step by step instructions on how to create a website for free, and then add adverts to it so you can start generating income.
Any questions please leave a comment on this blog.

I've added some screenshots to the page on setting up a blogger account and also for statcounter, I explain was there are on the website.
Hopefully I'll get to complete the page on creating an Adsense account tomorrow.
