Career Questions and Answers

Navy veteran electronics tech with some job questions?
Asked by Jason Z
I served 6 years in the Navy as an electronics tech and I now work with alarm and cctv installs. The current job I have just doesnt have any growing room and the pay raises are sad. Anyway I was just wanting to ask people who have had experience in this industry what should I look for and what field should I get into. Telecoms? Aviation, etc. I want something that I can grow with and climb the ladder and it seems like everything that I find with the electronics industry is just a job paying 17hr and you get a .50 cent raise each year. Any pointers or advice on what path I should take or should look for a new career either doing electronic work or something else. Thanks for the help.

Many ET ratings I have known work on aircraft. There are aircraft service centers throughout the U.S. located at smaller airports/airfields. In North Atlanta we have a well known service center located at Peachtree/Dekalb Airport, EPPS Air Service. I have known techs with alarm and cctv companies and their experience was the same as yours now. Especially with the housing market as it is today you are seeing less installs and increased cancellations.
