Colleges don't offer those courses--well not academic colleges--it's "beauty colleges" that you attend.

People won't necessarily hire you if you don't go to college for it judging that it won't look very good on your application.

You'll still have to take some classes. Try a beauty school.

Take a beauticians course. The courses can be as long as 6 months and as short as 1 or 2 months. Specialize in only hair section. Then go a start working at a salon. Dont keep working at the same one. Change salons so you can learn something new everytime. Pratice on friends and family. This way you will get ur experience too. and in no time u can be a great hairdresser.

I don't know who told you you need to go to college to be a hairstylist.
You need to be a state licensed cosmetologist to legally do hair. In order to get a license you will need to go to an accredited cosmetology school. Around here the requirements are 1600 hours. Then you have to get your license renewed each year, but I don't think you have to take any more courses.
