Career Questions and Answers
Could a Pharmacist please share some useful information on their career please?
Asked by winter101
I'm thinking about pharmacy as a prospective career. Could someone (preferably a pharmacist) share some information? Such as: What is your favorite part of the job? What is you least favorite aspect? What are some other advantages/disadvantages? How was pharmacy school? How difficult was it to find a job? Any information is greatly appreciated.

the previous answer mentioned a 9 to 5 job. That is NOT typical. As for the pay, it depends on where you live and work. 100K is probably the national average based on a 40 hour week. Most of the folks I work with are closer to 140K.
My favorite part of the job is bringing my skills and knowledge to bear to help people take care of themselves. My least favorite aspect is trying to help people who don't wish to help themselves.
Pharmacy school was long, hard, and sort of expensive. Things have changed though.......it is much more expensive now.
The only difficulty with jobs is deciding which one you will take. There is a nationwide shortage of pharmacists that is about 15 years running. It is about to get worse. Back in the 70's pharmacy schools were belching out a glut of pharmacists. These guys are all in there mid to late 50's and nearing retirement and represent a disproportionate amount of the pharmacists out there.
