They offered me a career as well, but I can't find any real info on them. Has anybody went as far as 'The Probationary Period'? Even their web site doesn't give any real answers to what kind of marketing it is. OK, it screams scam. They just contacted me after I asked for more info, with a "Congratulations! You've been short listed. " It's weird that I can't find anything positive or negative.....except here. Are any of you going to proceed? I tried calling the office/fax and got a 'mailbox is full' message. I am going to call them tomarrow. Till then! My project: Adult Multicultural Education Service Everybodys the same right? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Good work Mark! That is all I needed to see. How cool is this? I'm in Idaho, the rest of you are scattered across the country, yet we all came together to beat this! To bad this was a scam 'cause we would have all probably made a kick-ass team.

if the Web site is Alexa.com this is a division of Amazon.com why you have to be careful of craigslist, it also is a great resource. I found my current home thru there

I got to the probation and I was wondering what anyone else's project for probation to compare. I have been researching it today and this is what I discovered: 1) Their web site isn't Alexa.com it is http://www.alexa-marketing.com, but in order to see anything on the web site you will need to go to the extention: http://www.alexa-marketing.com/testimonials.htm 2) I did research for the owner of the name http://www.alexa-marketing.com and it is someone in NY. I tried calling the number and it is disconnected. The person's name is either phony or overseas. 3) Their contract is written in British English. They use words, such as, orgaisation, instead of organization. "S' is used instead of "Z". Also, the termnology they use is not the same as US lingo. For compensation, they use the words "Funds credit to your account". 4) Alexa is part of AMAZON and ALEXA is also another company in the US, but it isn't the same. I have huge concerns because they had me write my signature on line. There is no way I am going to give them access to my back account. 5) Their fax and phone number are the same on the web site. They also claim to be top in Dallas, as you discover, nothing about them. ===================== MORE UPDATE: I, too got, a letter stating I am starting today. Just curious what project they said you were going to work on? Mine is AUDULT MUTICULTURAL EDUCATION SERVICES Here is my start letter. I wondering if it is same as you. AND WHY IS IT THEY ARE NOW USING GMAIL as their email account. (Another example of a scam.) Thank you for joining Alexa Marketing Team. Monday, the 3rd of December, will be the first day of training for you. I will assign some basic, introductory tasks for the first week of training to make sure you can handle them on your own a short while later. Completing the training assignments is a very important part of your work and you should not view it as something separate from the actual employment. By completing the training assignments you will gain a realistic idea of how you are going to earn money in the future. The assignments are intended to be as helpful, informative and close to real life as possible. Each assignment is related to a particular part of your work. During your training you will learn to coordinate adequately your Virtual Team. This firstly implies better understanding of what other members of the Team do. Let me try to put it in a nutshell: MARKETING and PR DEPARTMENT works to promote the network and gets involved in almost everything as a key part of the business. SALES PROFESSIONALS are highly experienced industry personnel will assist you in sourcing new clients and businesses. ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT is responsible for all moneys and monetary transactions to, for, by, with, and from the Company. HR DEPARTMENT provides a personnel and training service to all employees of the Company. IT – provides solutions, advice and support to the whole network. SUPPORT DEPARTMENT prides itself in fanatical customer support. SECURITY TEAM exists to ensure the security of the Company's information assets are appropriately protected. During the coming two weeks of your training you'll be working in close partnership with almost each of the above departments. By the end of your first week of training you should prove your ability to work effectively with your team. While it's useful to understand how they prefer to think and communicate, better still learn and practice some business our Marketing and Customer Support Managers do on a day-to-day basis. If you remember you will be supporting them during your trial. The project, which is funded by a registered charity, was originally set up last month and run entirely by volunteers until they received a grant from the Community Fund that allowed them to advance further. Currently there are only two paid staff working at the project, an Administrative Assistant and a Community Development Worker and in terms of support work the project is completely reliant on a small number of extremely committed volunteers. Now that the funds have been secured for the project we can concentrate on things like company staff to be appointed and work to be assigned to each member of the project. Before you can start I'd like you to review the tasks for the first few days and what we aim to achieve. Part 1 – gathering data, handling transaction, reporting transaction details to the client. As you can see on your first day of work you'll be gathering information and providing it to our Marketing Manager working here in Texas. I'd like you to contact Scott Fletcher at ScottFletcherAM@gmail.com for clarifications and assistance with your first task. While I have prepared a training plan, he's kindly agreed to help implement your training plan successfully. Please just email him today (around 10am your time) and don't forget to let him know the 2 hours (of your choice) when you're available during the weekdays. Give him an option, for example Tuesday: 9-11am or 14-16pm, so he could arrange everything to suit you both. He will be guiding you through your first days of work. By the way, he’s an extremely caring and sympathetic manager and I’m sure you’ll benefit from working with him. Bear in mind that you’ll need to email me a report with the progress you’ve made on each day of work. Also make sure to include as much detail as possible describing any relevant issues. I also encourage you to come up with your own ideas about how things might be improved, and where I agree, we will follow up these ideas and develop them into practice. If everything goes smoothly with your first tasks and the feedback is positive overall, then we’ll be able to proceed to the 2nd part of your training. The activities of the 2nd part of the training are: Part 2 - As an administrative coordinator of a project, you will self-register your project in the Company’s client/project database. So you’ll be able to distribute all incoming and outgoing correspondence (assignments) for other project staff. The database gives you access to other important contacts necessary to carry out the job. 2nd part of training is primarily aimed at making you feel much easier in digital contacts and so-called virtual cooperation. Though your work involves more showing rather than telling, I do not want you to feel uneasy about anything related to your duties, so feel free to ask or talk to me about anything relevant to your work. Thank you once again for joining us, I hope you’ll really benefit from your training and will enjoy working at Alexa Marketing. Regards, Matthew Woods Director of HR Alexa Marketing LLC. Tel/Fax: 713-401-9762 E-mail: MatthewWoodsAM@gmail.com alt.e-mail: careers@alexa-marketing* ***************UPDATE********************* I got the same thing re: Transactions etc.. The thing that worries me is that I did a signature thing online. There is no way I would do that again.

Yeah I just got an email stating that I had gotten the position that I never even applied for. Funny I am in the trial period and there isn't any information on them. I just received an "offer" to start the probationary period for the Admin Assistant II also. It doesn't sit right with me either but sounds interesting so I look forward to all your responses. Don't think it is legitimate to pay our taxes without deducting them from the wage either. That doesn't make sense at all. Maybe these guys are just hooked to the Alexa Marketing site somehow from out of the country and looking for bank accounts?
Answered by Midge

A:
EVERYONE! THIS IS A SCAM!! These guys are setup in the UK using a false phone number from Houston, TX. They're not registered in the State of Texas at all. They basically want your banking information so someone could send you money that you would have to withdraw from your bank then wire to them. I have an MBA and their mumbo jumbo description of an "Administrative Assistant" didnt make sense to me, but I was intrigued to follow up. This is what Scott sent to me: Hi Mark, How are you? Thanks for contacting me. Today you’re going to start your training and you’ll actually have to do quite a few things, so let’s get started. To begin with you must realize what my job as a marketing manager is about and what it has to do with your job at Alexa Mkt. Basically I work with the Admin Assistant (i.e. you), the Marketing and Accounts Departments and our team of in-house and freelance staff. I have to spend long periods out of the office attending trade fairs and meeting advertising agencies and potential clients. I also own a small bookstore in Dallas, though can easily continue my employment with Alexa. Because of the time I spend on the move and away from my desk, I was finding it difficult to liaise with other departments in the company. I even bought a mobile phone with a built-in modem, and the necessary equipment to connect it to a laptop. Now, when I’m with clients, I’m not interrupted with calls to mobile. Instead, I keep up with colleagues by e-mail when I have time throughout the day, wherever I’m across the country – whether in the evening after meetings, or on a train. Consequently, when I return to the office, I have already dealt with routine administration and am aware of all the issues I has to tackle. I do sometimes have deadlines to work to and some issues require more immediate attention than others (particularly in relation to financial matters), and therefore there will be times when normal working hours will be exceeded. To avoid this you’re supposed to be supporting me with a few time-consuming issues. When I started working at Alexa I opened a business account with a Business Name. You’ll be given access to that Alexa's business account to keep us up-to-date with any account activities, for example, communicate payments (made by the clients) throughout the entire team, providing all relevant payment information and contact details required to handle the transaction. Once we receive a payment you’re supposed to forward it further to our main company account in the US or some other destination as assigned. In fact, most of payments are sent by clients directly to our main US corporate account, however, in some cases (for example, when the company hires a third party to get the work done) your help will be required to assist our clients by acting as a bridge between the Client and the Company. Let me make this point very clear using our current project as an example. Our client needs to pay our web design staff and payment is scheduled to be made within the next few days. Once I receive the payment I have to wait some time till it’s cleared and available in my account. Then I’m supposed to forward it to our web designers via bank transfer. If they prefer another way of sending money to them (usually it’s a money transfer system like MoneyGram), then I have to physically withdraw the money from the bank and then send it to the intended recipient. I’m yet to hear back from them as to which method of payment they'd prefer. During your trial you are supposed to handle at least one of the transactions. You should be able to send payment using any of the above methods, and here’s what we’ll do to avoid possible delays/mistakes. 1) If you’re not familiar with the process of sending money through payment systems like MoneyGram or Western Union, then you need to find the nearest locations of both MoneyGram and Western Union and e-mail their addresses and phone numbers to me. You should also give them a call to find out if they provide international transfer services. 2) You should call your bank to find out how much your daily in-branch withdrawal limit is. The limits may be too low without you even knowing, so please check this one with your branch. Also check with your bank if you can make international transfers and how much this will cost you. This information will help you later on when dealing with Company’s account. 3) I will provide the client with the banking details of yours for a transaction I mentioned earlier so the details required from you are as follows: Account Holder's Name: Name of the Bank: Account Information: Routing No: Account No: By giving me your account information you also agree with the following: The Company will not reveal your details; and will only remit agreed funds to the account at the times and dates specified prior each transaction. The Employee will not attempt to use any of the Company funds – even though they are properly insured against theft - other than those deposited in relation to the employment as agreed remuneration. I will also supply your details to our Accounts Dep., so they could arrange your first salary payment by the end of the trial. As for the taxes, unlike you, I do not receive salary as I work on a commission fee basis. Anyway, next week I’ll send you an outline of exactly what the procedures are. I just do not want to burden you with too much all at once. E-mail me back as soon as you gather the required information. Thank you, Regards, Scott Fletcher Marketing Manager Alexa Marketing USA Tel/Fax: 214-550-8192 E-mail: ScottFletcherAM@gmail.com alt.e-mail: SFletcher@alexa-marketing.com

This smells bad!! I, too, got all the above. I'm working with "Scott" who wants my bank account info for future client payments. What company, especially if its "all that", would want to use "Admin. Asst" to handle monies? Isn't that why companies have "Acct. Receivables" department? I'm trying to find out more about the company itself but nothing yet. It's amazing how devious these scammers are getting! I responded to an ad in Craigslist for a Admin. Asst. position to do pediatric assessments. Their response were these "boiler templates" that all of you received that had nothing to do with the position applied for. I received exactly the same responses as all of you have. Not even a word was omitted. There was no mention of the position I applied for. What are all of you planning to do with this today since we're all in "training" as of today ... "virtual employees" working for a "virtual company" ... We should give them a "virtual bank account" ...

I as well have gotten all of these same responses. Thought it all sounded to good to be true. I wrote back Scott and Matthew but haven't heard anything. I told them I think they are a scam and to prove me wrong. Doubt I'll get another email from them now. Seems like we should report this to somebody, but I have no idea who. Good thing people are smart enough that when banking information comes up we know better. Good job everyone. 10:30am Scott wrote back and said he was going to call me. I'll let you know if he does what he says.

I thought it was fishy when I responded to their first email and stated that I couldn't start until January. Their response was the standard email everyone else got, stating that I was starting as of today if I wanted. That struck me as odd, and prompted me to do a bit more research than I previously had done. These scammers are ridiculous!! I found this info on CraigsList: Who should I notify about fraud or scam attempts? FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357) FTC online complaint form (www.ftc.gov) Canadian PhoneBusters hotline: 888-495-8501 Internet Fraud Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov/) Non-emergency number for your local police department. If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please email the details to "abuse@craigslist.org". Be sure to include the URL (or eight-digit post ID number) in your message. Thanks everyone for the input.

I was looking for info on Alexa Marketing LLC. for a couple of days but could no find any info on this company. However, I saw too many red flags but thought finally I have a job. So I was supposed to start today and thought I would check again because they did not answer any of my questions, so I am glad that others were looking to see if this is a scam. I was also wondering if they were going to supply computers and Internet access because if it is an Internet based company that is what a REAL company would provide. So this is a scam and I guess I will wish everyone luck on everyone getting a job... it is just a shame for those who did not research this company.

Here is acopy of what I sent Scott this morning. He never responded with training info. Scott, Matthew Woods provided me your email address and suggested that I write you for project/training related purposes. I have some concerns at this juncture. Let me list a few-evidently you have many people starting today as there has been query activity regarding Alexa Marketing in, let's say Yahoo Answers, all in the last few days, very odd that a gmail account is provided rather than a corporately posed/guised email address, the financials of the employment math are poor ($25.00 per hour/$1000 week=$52,000 per year during training/probation, yet once offered a permanent position it starts at $46,000?) and there are general conceptual gaps in the presentation of Matt's first two emails...on the upside the web site is generally very strong, but I think the testimonial page does not persuade well. You guys have put a lot of work into whatever this is and however it is going for you do not be discouraged. If mistakes have occurred just correct and re-tool for the next round. If you have something real to say email me a personal response of a level of customization as a response to this email.

Wow- a shame- I just sent off an application and was going to contact "Mr. Woods" tomorrow- glad I found this site! I sent a note to Craigslist asking to have it removed and included the post & ID # along with a link to this forum. Hope it is taken off soon so no one else is scammed! Just for the record, as a freelance writer, anyone I've worked for that I've found on-line has either sent me a check (only from an extremely reputable company) or pays me through PayPal. I wouldn't EVER give out my bank account info... Thanks for the tips!!!

I too have receieved the same emails from the same contacts as you all. It is so sad, that people would go out of their way and create this faux website, with false information just for your bank information. I must say whoever did create this whole scam, was quite the entertainer and is quite intelligent. LOL, it's crazy how so much input put into this website, story, emails....they definitely get an A for EFFORT in my book LOL. But if something is too good to be true, it's because, it probably is... I didn't send my signature in, I still had my research to do, and thankfully I found this. Good luck to all in their endeavors.

I too have been offered a job with them via Craigslist. I have been cautious and a bit suspicious of them even tho I've been in contact with them & seen what looks like a legit web site because I can't find a way to verify them. Please write back as I am anxious to hear what you have to say.

Oh, I did respond to "Scott" and let him know that I've reported the scam.

I looked into this Alexa Marketing LLC and I have found that the fax number and telephone number are both the same, I wrote back to Mr . Fletcher, and he has not responded when I asked if the company is part of the BBB. This company has scam written all over it. Lets look at it from a different perspective, if I was an employer of a huge marketing firm, and I had several clients. I would not hire individuals to take in millions of dollars when I have not even conducted a background check on them. In turn I would not have a client send my company's funds all over the United States, when it only takes 2 to 3 business days to recieve such funds via FED EX if not sooner. In the past these types of scams have ripped off American society, by feeding off the American Dream of making good money, and offering insurance to cover medical detal, vision, paid vacation and a huge amount of Salery. I am repulsed by the individuals that are attemptingto scam my fellow American's and we all need to take action. Go directly to Craigs list and file a complaint in your area and stop these blood thirsty freaks in their tracks.

You may want to pass this one by. They offered me a position as well (Admin. Assistant) $25.00 per hr with a 250.00 bonus after the two weeks training are up. You can't reach anyone on the phone, and you can't reach a Mr. Woods via his e-mail, he says he has no way to receive them. The last five jobs I have researched on the website that you have listed, have turned out to be scams. Follow your instincts, if you can't meet them, or talk to them, they're probably scamming you. Good Luck!!
