School for LPN or RN in Nursing? What shall I choose??
Asked by NYer
I want to take nursing classes, but I'm wondering: Should I go for the LPN certificate program or an A.S. in nursing (leading to the RN license)?
I have a BA already, but I'm torn whether to become a nurse as quickly as I can or go further in school. Either way, I'd want to earn my RN license at some point. I don't think there's a major salary difference between the LPN and RN license in NY, right?

If you have an exisiting Bachelors, look for an accelerated program that transfers in all of your previous college work and offers nursing classes/clinicals to elevate your credentials to a BSN.
Also, stay away from LPN, its a bad idea as they are being phased out and marginalized professionally these days.

DO NOT WASTE THE TIME FOR THE LPN ! IN THE LOCAL HOSPITAL HERE IN INDIANA, THEY ARE NOT HIRING ANY LPNS. SO IT MAYBE HAPPENING TO ALL STATES SOON! GO FOR THE RN AND GOOD LUCK! IT IS A CHALLENGING PROFESSION!

From what I've been told in Ohio there is a huge demand for LPNs as well as RNs.
I'm going for my LPN certificate, hopefully I will get into the next class.
11 months of training and I can quit my hell-on-earth job and start making a difference.
I plan on going on to get my RN, but I wanted to get out of my present job ASAP and the LPN classes are a lot closer (at a local vocational school) than the RN classes from the same college.
Since I have to work to support my family when I'm going to school it will be a lot easier to go for the LPN then go to school for the degree after.
