A Level Student-Part Time (Weekend/Evening Job) Disability Suggestions?
Asked by cianidebaby
I live in the UK, I started 6th Form in September and I am looking for a part time job while i study. I have 9 GCSEs grade A-C. I am a wheelchair user, and would find it difficult to serve in shops or work in fast food establishments like most of my friends do. I would have no problem doing any sort of work on a computer or answering a phone etc, but i was wondering whether a person of 16 could do that sort of thing part time. Any information on that would be greatly appreciated, and if that is not possible could you help me think up alternatives. Thanks.

the disability discrimination act 1998 means an employer has to make your workplace suitable for you. Apply for jobs where you want to work, even in stores. If they reject you're application and you feel it is because you are in a wheelchair write them a letter and ask why your application was rejected. You could work in a large store as they usually have staff elevators.
