What college courses are involved to become a detective?

I've always wanted to be a police detective. I'm 20 and I haven't done any college courses. What all is involved? How long does the schooling take? And most of all what are the pro's and con's of this career? I own a house, so I pay a morgage and work full time. I need to start a career path while working.

I think you need to major in Forensic Science or Criminal Justice.
