LOL at $40,000. Sorry but no. Not here.
My guess would be closer to $30,000 - but I would take the others' advice and use things like Monster to help you come up with a more on-target answer.

Do your research and ask around? Many companies would be willing to tell you how much their IT Help Desk Personal make. Actually by law they have to provide that information to you. But being on the safe side I would say $40,000 to $45,000 a year.
I don't know what the cost of living is like up there in Milwaukee, but you need to do a cost of living analysis ... how much is a two bedroom apartment (2 because you might have a friend come over and crash), how much food you will eat in the month, car and insurance bills, etc. etc. etc.

Find out what the going rate is. Is BA your major ? Ask peeps who are doing the job that you're applying for (& in the same area) where they started. Good luck ! :)

go to Monster.com or Salary.com and go to one of their salary widgets. They take into consideration your education, experience, and location.
Of the top of my head, I would say about $17 to $20 an hour. That's how much my hubby makes and that's what he does for a living.
Be prepared to move. Help desk jobs are leaving fast (going to other countries) so you have to follow them if you want to keep the job. My hubby has had more than a dozen jobs in the past 3 years because we can't move to where the jobs are.
Good luck, and if possible, go back to school and get a more useful degree. Maybe in the medical or service professions.
