What do you tell a recruitment consultant when you are asked if you are registered with any other consultancy?
Asked by rhyme_n_shyne
I would have thought you should tell them that you have but not disclose their identities. Telling them that you have could create a competitive atmosphere which could work to your advantage and not disclosing the other consultants' identity will not put the consultant you are talking to, on the back foot, if the other consultants' are more established and capable. Am I right or wrong?

It depends on why they are asking. If they are asking to determine how marketable you are or if they need to move quickly on your behalf, this is a good thing. However, if they are trying to find out what competition they have or if you have been looking for work for an extensive period of time, that may reflect negatively. I have found it necessary to make certain more than one agency is not submitting you to the same job opportunity. This may result in your name being blacklisted so to speak for any future opportunities with the company where you were submitted. It has happened to a number of my colleagues and myself once. It is a judgment call on your behalf, try to find out why you are being asked this question. Based on their response, give one that will leave you open for the most favorable success in getting hired. If not with this agency, then another. A. Johnson WealthTransfer.bb2k.net
