How can I get into the career path of loss prevention management?
Asked by Joe
what types of jobs can give experience in loss prevention?? does being a retail store manager help? any certifications i cud possibly get?

For Loss Prevention you should apply at a store that has a loss prevntion department. If you can't get in there right away you could start as a private security guard or club bouncer. One thing the stores will look for is that you can handle yourself if things get rough. Once you get into the position. Education would be the next most important. If your local Community College has law enforcement programs that would be a big plus to take some classes in or even if they have a degree or certificate program. Having previous management experience would be good, but if it is not having to do with loss prevention you will probably have to start at the bottom again. Unless you can relate how your previous experience would help in Loss Prevention, such as if that was one of your duties. The best thing to do is to apply at a couple of stores and if you do not get the job ask them the reasons why and what you could do to improve your chances.

Most requirements to be a manager in loss prevention are that you need college, and experiene in loss prevention. you will most likely also need experience in being a manager. i would suggest going to college while getting a job in loss prevention. while working in loss prevention try to talk to your boss and tell him or her your interested in becoming a manager in loss prevention and see if they would be your mentor and show you the ropes. take on as much resonsibility as possible and try to get them to be a reference for you later on. hope this helps.
