Difference between "account manager" and "account executive?"?
Asked by bethiswriting
For job-description purposes, what's the difference between a marketing account MANAGER and a marketing account EXECUTIVE? And who reports to whom -- if at all?

Most companies define the account manager position as one who services existing accounts and the account executive as one who sells new business. Many people find the word "sales" offensive (don't know why), so they think the account executive sounds better - more professional. As to the rank, that would depend on the company. In my company, the account managers (service reps) report to the account execs (sales reps). Hope that helps a little.

Really just depends on the company. Be sure to always ask for a job description.
