what is a good major for someone who wants to be an animal trainer?
Asked by nedoglover
I want to be an animal trainer but I also want to go to college so I have a backup plan, just in case. I would like to train dogs for either the police or guide dogs, something in that area.

Veterinary is not a major. Pre-veterinary medicine is. But for an animal trainer these classes would go more indepth than you probaby want. Animal science. I am currently an Animal science, preveterinary medicine major. Courses go into all aspects of animals, from nutrition to physiology and reproduction. An animal trainer with a good knowledge base in this would be a very valuable asset to their customers.
My current major.

Actually, get a degree in business. Animal trainers are often self-employed and you'll know more about running your own business if that happens. It's also a good degree as a back-up plan if you change your mind. Then take some classes related to animals (such as animal behavior or training) while in college.
