Anyone have experience as an Arabic translator?

I'm thinking of trying to learn the language since there is such great demand for translators. Anyone with experience or know anyone in such a position? I'm looking for information: how long to learn the language from scratch (I'm fluent in Spanish, very adept at learning new languages), are there American programs in Arabic countries, what kinds of jobs, etc. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois but no translating experience, I lived in Spain for a year and I'm 26.
