What is the right line of work for someone who enjoys problem solving?
Asked by coffeemouse
I've been working in a client services role at large ad agencies for the past few years, and have found that my work to be busy but very easy. I've recently realized that I enjoy doing my own coding/programming work rather than working on the business end. I think that with programming, you're faced with more problems that you need to solve. However, I'm not a very good programmer because I can't keep all the syntax rules straight in my head. What I do enjoy is solving problems. When I work on a site, I'm constantly trying to figure out the best way to do something, and I will do my due diligence on informational websites. I've always loved math problems and would forget about time and work on them for hours. I studied neuroscience and biochemistry in college, but abandoned the sciences after college because I wanted to go to a lot of parties. Now I think I want to solve problems as my livelihood. Does anyone have any ideas about what directions I could take this? I'm extending the expiration date of this question. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed with the responses I've gotten. Most of them promote some website or work-from-home scheme and aren't objective...

since you have a background in neuroscience, psychology seems like an ideal field. you can either do research or practice. you can also get into I/O Psychology, which pretty much helping companies be more efficient and help with employees.
