How do you become a nominated contractor for insurance companies?

I run a building company in the south of England and would like to branch into insurance related work. How do you become a nominated contractor & has anyone else worked for insurance companies ???

Here in the U.S you have to have your licenses. Which means taking a few classes and then passing a test. If you are going to broker out you usually have to have a company appoint you. This pretty much means they have to fill out paperwork and send it to the insurance department. Once this is done you can issue policies throught that company.
