I used to drive long hall and to be honest it sucks, the money is pretty good, but you have to drive long distances and you drive for more than 8 hours a day. The limit for a day was 12 hours a day, i had a run from California to Florida and i would be gone for 3 weeks at a time and get like 5-6 days off in a row. So if you are married it does not work out well. Plus the weigh stations are a pain in the butt, all that waiting just to get inspected. Sleeping in your cab is OK but takes some getting used to. Most companys will pay a base rate per hour and so much per mile that you go.

I went OTR with my boyfriend for 1 1/2 yrs. It was very gruelling
for me, because I was sick often. First, you go to truck driving
school. Classes, and driving in parking lot. If you pass, you will
go out on the road with a Trainer. You will both be responsible
for driving continuesly. Day and night. Taking turns. This is the
time to be EXTRA careful when your driving. There is ALOT more to truck driving than people realize. You have to learn about
your "Log Books", very important. Yes, you will be sleeping in the
cab, there will be two bunk beds. But once your done with your
trainer, you will have a single bed. A place to put a small fridge.
Use a converter for a tv. It's pretty cool. But it's really frustrating
sometimes. If you ever get a CB you will hear all the other trucker
bitching about one thing or another. And they can be REALLY
FUNNY and quite entertaining. It is absolutly a brotherhood. They
are tough, a different breed. But I've seen ladies do it, so.....
It is a hard profession, but you get to see alot of the USA !!
