How can I get a decent paying job in distribution or manufacturing in San Luis Obispo?

Try CALJOBS (with EDD) or Americas Job Bank. They are more area specific. Also try craigslist.org. (I grew up in Grover City...family still lives there. What specific area are you looking for?)

These are not traditionally high paying jobs anywhere unless you're union. Perhaps you need to look into apprenticeships with various manufacturers. These are avenues into specialized skill sets that provide better employment opportunities. You will have to start at similar pay scale but as your skills increase you can negotiate for more.
This has been one of my problems in advancement, expecting to be accepted by new employers at better pay scales results in work environments that are less than good. Either the employer is a bad manager in one way or another or the other people hired are flighty and create unstable work environments. For whatever reason these tend to be high turnover jobs where people come and go all the time. The key to a successful career by means of employment is stability, responsibility, growth.
