How does someone become a private investigator?

Haven't you seen Magnum PI? All you have to do is find some super-rich guy that rents his house out to some gay housekeeper. When you find him, you get to drive around in his Ferrari and live on his estate for free. Then you can work with your friend who may be a veteran, and another that knows how to fly a helicopter.
