Why is it so hard to find a good part-time job to gain experience while attending college?

I am currently looking for a part-time job that doesn't involve waiting tables while attending school full time. I can't seem to find many options.

Does your resume say that you are looking for a specific job or is it vague and leaves the decision up to the employer to figure out what you want to do. An objective of finding an interesting job goes into the waste basket. An objective of finding a sales job where I can utilize my strong interpersonal skills gets kicked over to the sales dept. Are you only looking at ads or are you taking out the yellow pages and calling companies in your field and asking if you can fax over a resume and to who's attention. Only 10% of all jobs get advertised. Have you told everyone you know you are looking? 70% of people get their jobs through someone they know.

You can make lots of money being a stripper. I heard girls do that all the time to make money for college.

The main reason is that the employer knows your not going to stay there and then they will have to waste more time training someone else. Its like trying to get a job your way over qualified for no one wants to hire you because they know you wont stay same thing for college students

Try a temp agency that specifically targets the industry you are looking into. Yellow Pages are a good place to start and temp agencies are usually pretty forgiving with past experience. I would however, make sure you have some marketable skills - like MS Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, etc.)

why don't you just work at your university then? i used to work at my school's book store like i would go back there during break or after a class is over. the pay is cheap but the job is very flexible. if you have some money in your bank, go buy wholesale and re-sell the stuff on ebay - clothes, jewelry, and shoes make the most profits. there you get pay just by sitting infront of your computer :)
